Development Stages

Throughout our Playspaces website we have ensured that all products include details of age range suitability. We have done this by including icons as shown below.

A brief description of the developmental stages is provided below.

Early Years Foundation (EYFS) Stage

The EYFS frameworks sets out welfare and developmental goals for children aged five years and under.

Key Stage 1 (KS1)

These are the two years of schooling within maintained schools in England & Wales, that are normally known as Years 1 and 2, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7 years.

Key Stage 2 (KS2) – These are the four years of schooling within maintained schools in England and Wales, that are normally known as Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, when pupils are aged between 7 and 11.

Secondary (SEC) is made up of Key Stages 3 & 4:

Key Stage 3 (KS3)

These are the three years of schooling within maintained schools in England and Wales, that are normally known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, when pupils are aged between 11 and 14.

Key Stage 4 (KS4)

These are the two years of school education which incorporate GCSEs, and other exams within maintained schools, that are normally known as Year 10 and 11 in England and Wales, when pupils are aged between 14 and 16.
